In a recent interview, HKUST and HKUST(GZ) Chair Professor TSUNG Fu-Gee shared his views on industry-university collaboration, AI applications in manufacturing, China’s advantages in the field, as well as the commercialization of university research findings and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Prof. Tsung summarized the two trends in AI application in industry – “optimization of existing resources” and “incremental innovation” – with the former focusing on improving existing processes using AI and the latter on leveraging AI to enable innovations that were previously unattainable. He has been honored with the 2025 Shewhart Medal by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). (Various media)
